Momma and puppies are beginning to stabilize. Puppies are energetic and eating puppy mush. Formula donations, moist puppy food and wee wee pads would be great to have for them. We have 6 fiesty boys and 1 sweet little princess. The girl has the slighlty pink nose. Ideally, we would have another foster for 2 more puppies. Please reach out if you can help. Momma Maya was sadly found to have multiple bullet fragments in her skull effecting her nasal cavity, under her jawline and a separate shooting incident that lodged bullet fragments in her abdomen. It's unimaginanle that this brave soul had to endure the pain of multiple shootings, labor and delivery of a litter of puppies and freezing cold nights before anyone stepped in to help her. Momma Maya will need ct scans ans possibly surgery to remove the bullet fragments effecting her breathing. First step is to stabilize momma though. The medications she needs to be on are too strong for the puppies, so we are sadly having to separate momma from babies so momma can heal.

Maya has spent years surviving where no dog ever should.

She was abandoned at a storage container business, left to live on open acres of land with no shelter, no medical care, and no one to protect her. Over the years, Maya has had five to six litters of puppies, all without a single vet visit, vaccine, or ounce of compassion from the humans who failed her.

This winter, as temperatures dropped to 32 degrees and below, Maya did the impossible. While freezing, starving, and sick herself, she fought with everything she had to keep her seven newborn puppies alive. Night after night, she curled her exhausted body around them, shielding them from the cold. These babies have just opened their eyes to the world—because their mother refused to let them die unseen.

Now, Maya’s body is giving out.

She is currently at VEG Emergency, unable to stand on her own, struggling to breathe, and profoundly weak. Her lymph nodes are severely enlarged, creating a painful bulge beneath her chin. She is battling a serious, unknown illness—possibly advanced heartworm disease, severe pneumonia, or both. Her breathing is labored. She is tired. She is suffering.

And yet… she is still trying.

Maya and her puppies are being kept overnight so she can receive oxygen, diagnostics, and critical care—while her babies stay warm, safe, and alive beside her. The vet bills are already substantial and rapidly growing, and this rescue is far more than a couple of people can shoulder alone.

We are asking—urgently—for the community to step in where Maya has always been alone.
