💊 My Mission: Culturally-Tailored Medicine for Communities Like Mine

Ironically, Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) became one of the most defining forces in shaping who I am and who I’m becoming. I’ve always been fascinated by how the human body works—especially how medications and nutrition influence our health. But my passion for pharmacy and nutrition goes beyond textbooks. It comes from watching my own family members, many of whom live with SCD, and witnessing firsthand how even the smallest adjustments in diet or prescriptions could impact their day-to-day health.

That deep, personal connection sparked a hunger in me to understand the science behind it all—and to use that knowledge to make a difference.

This fall, I’ll begin my studies at Sam Houston State University, majoring in Biomedical Science. My ultimate goal is to earn my Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and specialize in pharmacological research and nutritional therapy. I envision a future in medicine where treatments are not one-size-fits-all, but rather tailored to a person’s genetics, lifestyle, and cultural background.

Working alongside my mom to support patients in the Sickle Cell community has shown me the power of both science and service. It’s not enough to understand the biology—we have to stand up for equal access, advocate for those whose voices go unheard, and bring essential resources to underserved communities.

Winning the Warrior On The Rise Scholarship reinforces everything I’m working for. It’s more than just financial help—it’s a reminder that this mission I’ve chosen matters. That someone believes in the future I want to help build. That communities like mine deserve better—and that I can help make that possible.
