🌍 I’m Combining Numbers and Purpose—To Help Build a Better World

Hi, my name is Malissa Richardson, and on May 3rd, 2025, I graduated from Florida State University with a dual degree in Accounting and International Affairs. This summer, I’ll be continuing my journey at FSU to pursue my Master of Accounting, a one-year program that will take me another step closer to my dream.

After graduate school, I’ll begin working at PwC, one of the world’s top accounting firms, where I plan to gain valuable experience over the next 3–7 years. But I’m dreaming even bigger than that.

My long-term goal is to work for a major international organization like the United Nations or the International Monetary Fund, helping to improve infrastructure and protect human rights in developing countries. I want to work in the field of global development—specifically in financial allocation and planning, making sure critical resources are directed to the communities that need them most.

🎭 More Than Numbers: The Joys That Keep Me Grounded

Outside of academics, I love traveling, learning about different cultures, reading (especially fantasy, satire, and romance), singing, musical theater, and writing short-form stories. These hobbies help me stay grounded and joyful as I work toward my future.

🎓 Why This Scholarship Matters

Winning the Warrior On The Rise Scholarship helps alleviate the financial pressure of paying out-of-pocket for an advanced degree. More importantly, it affirms that this journey—the work, the vision, the purpose—is worth investing in.

Living with Sickle Cell Disease has taught me what it means to persevere and stay focused, even when the journey is hard. This scholarship empowers me to keep going—and to one day pay it forward by serving those who need it most.
