Modupe Karimi's Story

🧠📚 I’m Studying History, Culture & Medicine—All on the Road to Equity

Hi, my name is Modupe, and I’m a rising senior at Yale University, where I’m double majoring in History of Medicine, Science, and Public Health and African Studies, with a certificate in Yoruba. I’ve always been passionate about understanding how healthcare is shaped not just by science, but by history, culture, and lived experience.

When I’m not buried in books (which is often!), you can find me reading everything from Black feminist theory to romance novels, taking long reflective walks, or getting my hands messy with pottery—a creative outlet that helps me de-stress and reset.

Right now, I’m deep in MCAT prep, which has been both exciting and intense. It’s a big step on my journey to becoming a physician who centers equity and compassion in every part of care—especially for communities that have long been overlooked.

🎓 Why This Scholarship Matters

Receiving the Warrior On The Rise Scholarship would help me afford the study materials I need as I prepare for this next chapter. But more than that, it’s a powerful reminder that this path—this calling—is seen and valued.

As someone who lives with Sickle Cell Disease, I know firsthand how important it is to feel understood and supported. I want to be the kind of doctor who not only treats symptoms, but also acknowledges the cultural and systemic realities my patients face.

This scholarship helps make that dream more possible—and affirms that the communities I hope to serve matter.

🌍 Help Us Uplift the Next Generation of Changemakers

I’m proud to be one of 27 Warrior On The Rise Scholarship recipients this year—a huge leap from the 10 awarded in previous years. That growth happened because people like you chose to invest in students like me—students living with Sickle Cell, dreaming big, and working hard to change the world.

By donating to the Warrior On The Rise Scholarship Fund, you help more warriors like me access the resources we need to thrive—not just academically, but as future leaders, healers, and advocates.

Thank you for believing in us.
