Supporting Gaza's Journalists to Survive, Rebuild, and Keep Reporting

This campaign began as an emergency effort to help Palestinian journalists evacuate, survive repeated displacement, and keep their families alive. A "ceasefire" was declared. The emergency did not end.

Palestinian journalists are still living through genocide. Israel continues to attack Gaza and to target journalists as they report, even as they try to survive the very destruction they are documenting.

Israel has destroyed entire neighborhoods: homes, media offices, communications systems, electricity and water infrastructure. Some journalists are returning to damaged neighborhoods. Others have no home to return to and remain in tents, shelters, or damaged buildings. Many have lost their jobs entirely. Gaza's media infrastructure is in ruins, and journalists who once held salaried positions now depend on occasional freelance assignments, without contracts or predictable income.

Yet they continue reporting.

They document Gaza while struggling to provide food, shelter, medicine, electricity, internet, transportation, and safety for their own families, all while mourning relatives, caring for displaced loved ones, and replacing destroyed equipment.

This renewed campaign provides direct financial assistance to vetted Palestinian journalists in Gaza, so each can meet their family's most urgent needs while continuing their work: returning, rebuilding, remaining displaced, replacing equipment, or surviving between assignments.

About the Gaza Journalist Fund

Drop Site News and Unmute Humanity launched the Gaza Journalist Fund with a goal of $150,000 to support 29 Palestinian journalists in Gaza. With the support of donors, the campaign raised more than $300,000 and expanded to 63 journalists, helping families cover urgent evacuation, shelter, food, medical, transportation, and communication needs.

But one distribution could not replace destroyed homes, lost equipment, or years of lost income. The moment the first phase became public, more journalists reached out. Colleagues referred colleagues. A waitlist formed.

The "ceasefire" did not rebuild their homes, restore Gaza's media infrastructure, or bring back stable employment. So we are renewing the Gaza Journalist Fund to expand direct financial support for vetted Palestinian journalists in Gaza.

Palestinian journalists should not have to choose between feeding their families and documenting the truth. They should not be expected to report a genocide while being left alone to survive it.

This renewed campaign will help them survive and keep reporting.

How journalists are identified:

Journalists are identified and vetted by Unmute Humanity through a multi-layer process: Direct participation: Journalists who have appeared on Unmute Humanity’s Voices of Palestine webcast or weekly TikTok Lives, or individuals with whom Unmute Humanity maintains ongoing direct communication. Unmute Humanity receives introductions by vetted colleagues already within the network, confirmed through direct outreach and cross-checking of their published work. This process ensures that every journalist supported is personally known to Unmute Humanity, actively reporting from Gaza
