Dirtbaby Farm is gathering support for our work this season as farmers growing fresh vegetables and herbs for postpartum families in Philadelphia. We are currently trying to raise $25,000 for our Giftbaby Postpartum Program to operate this year July-October. Please help us provide 18 weeks of free, flavorful meals to new parents!

Giftbaby Postpartum Meals are warm meals made from our farm’s fresh produce that are distributed on a weekly basis to caregivers who have recently given birth. Our incredible partners Paloma Irizarry and Ruben Alexis transform Dirtbaby’s fresh, local produce into these nutrient-dense meals specifically focused on postpartum health.

These meals are completely FREE for those that receive them, including home delivery.

One recipient of our postpartum meals wrote, “The meals Dirtbaby provided for our family were delicious, nourishing, generous, and warming foods. The meals gave us a break from the relentlessness of early postpartum life. A moment of peace to focus on healing, growth, rest, and self care. Our home was a healthier, more stable one because of the meals we received…Time and rest are two of the rarest commodities in our society, and this is doubly true for anyone who has ever struggled to keep their head above the poverty line. Dirtbaby provides a service so precious, and so desperately needed during the tender months of postpartum healing, that we honestly couldn't believe it was even real. These amazing people have identified a need in the community and discovered a brilliant way to not only fulfill that need, but to provide families with a strong, healthy foundation upon which everything else, the future success of students, citizens and leaders is built.”

Any donations beyond our goal for this program will go towards Dirtbaby Farm’s general operations. Our work is successful when mothers, postpartum parents, working artists, and their children are nourished by delicious food, grown with care for them to access and enjoy. We do this work to be a consistent and effective source of local food for our community, because we know that community-focused farming can make a huge impact, especially in the lives of families navigating food insecurity. We find success in this work when it is rooted in relationships–engaged in relationship to people and their needs, in relationship to land, and in relationship to an inequitable food system at large.
