Polly (FKA Toad) came to LOVEPAWS on July 3rd after spending over five weeks at Charles County. Thanks to a foster for stepping up, we were able to give this girl the second chance she deserves and got her into the AC just before the 4th of July heat wave hit!

Unfortunately, sweet Polly is heartworm positive and needs to undergo grueling HW treatment, which she will start on July 14. We're working with an incredible vet partner to get her through treatment, but we could use your help to raise funds. Every dollar helps!

For those who don’t know - HW treatment is a looong process. HW is preventable by using monthly HW prevention or a 1 yr Proheart injection (easy peasy). First, Polly has to be on Doxycycline for 30 days. After completing that, she'll need to get a series of 3 shots (which can make her feel not so great and make her back achy and painful). Polly will be on crate rest this whole time and for about a month post-last injection (serious complications can arise as the heart worms die off so avoiding physical activity and stress is key!). Fellow dog owners, PLEASE do not overlook the importance of HW prevention!
