Since 1983, SASSMM has been an agency of professionals and trained volunteers dedicated to providing advocacy and support to survivors and concerned others impacted by sexual violence (e.g., sexual assault, child sexual abuse, sexual harassment, trafficking, stalking).

In the past two years SASSMM was barely able to give out 10 backpacks to survivors of human trafficking in need of basic essentials - toiletries, pads/tampons, and a refillable water bottle, in addition to clothing (outerwear, underwear, t-shirt, leggings, socks). Often times this was the only property survivors had to their names as they sought safety. The need for these supplies could have been increased threefold to meet the actual need of survivors identified in our Midcoast communities.

Sexual assault survivors who haven't experienced human trafficking are also in need of these backpacks full of essential items. This is especially the case for survivors following a hospital forensic medical exam, where the survivor's clothing may be left behind as evidence in the forensic kit.
