In 2007, a group of friends who met on Spruce Street decided they could do more good together than apart. They pooled their giving, picked local organizations they believed in, and the Spruce Foundation was born.

Nearly 20 years later, that informal giving circle has grown into an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit that cultivates Philadelphia's next generation of leaders and philanthropists. Each year, we raise money through events, small donations, and sponsorships, then award grants to emerging, youth-serving nonprofits across the city. Since our founding, we have given $360,000 to 68 local organizations.

We focus on Philadelphia because we believe the city's best resource is its kids. Our 2026 grantees show what that looks like: Black Girls Love Math helps Black girls build confidence and community around math, Ginger Arts Center gives Chinatown youth a free space to create, Hunting Park United brings young people and neighbors together to care for North Philly, and Mentor Leaders Produce Mentor Leaders mentors young men ages 10 to 24 across the city.

Every gift helps us say yes to more organizations like these, and makes Philadelphia a better place to live, a little bit more each year.
