Our hooved and long-eared residents have a big appetite, and it’s time for our annual hay haul.

Every year we buy hay in bulk to carry the sanctuary through the seasons. For our rabbits, it’s the foundation of a healthy gut and good digestion. For our goats and pigs, it’s a hearty meal and (if they get messy) a cozy place to bed down. Feeding a full barn of animals is no small thing, and the cost climbs quickly.

This year, hay bales cost $1 more, so we’re aiming to raise $5,500 to keep the hay coming, and with this match in play, every dollar you give goes twice as far. Give $25 and it becomes $50. Give $100 and it becomes $200. Your gift is doubled until we hit that $2,000 mark.

Whatever you can give goes straight to the fresh, quality hay our animals depend on every single day.

Here’s the difference your gift makes:

$8 covers a day of hay for our rabbits
$30 feeds the rabbits, pigs, and goats for roughly two days
$55 keeps the rabbits munching for about a week
$100 fills the racks for the rabbits, pigs, and goats for a full week
$200 stocks hay for EVERYONE for two weeks
$300+ makes an enormous impact toward our seasonal hay bill

Our animal friends say thank you for helping keep them comfortable and full.

Any funds raised over our $5,500 goal will go towards general operating expenses.

~~Your gift is doubled right now! A generous donor is matching every donation up to $2,000, so your support goes twice as far toward our hay goal.~~ (Our donor match has ended!)

Since 1995, Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary (GLRS) has provided a safe haven for abandoned, abused, and neglected rabbits and other animals. We rescue rabbits from across Michigan and, when able, from other parts of the United States. When they arrive at GLRS, rabbits receive medical care as needed and are spayed or neutered, after which they are ready to meet their potential adopters! GLRS is a no-kill facility. Rabbits not eligible for adoption, either due to health or temperament, along with our pig, goat, and cat residents, live out their lives peacefully at the sanctuary.

Visiting the Sanctuary: We welcome visitors and are excited to share the wonders of the sanctuary; however, we are not open to the public daily. Tours are available by appointment during the spring, summer, and early fall. Please email us at info@rabbitsanctuary.org to schedule a visit. To help us continue providing a safe haven for the animals, we request a donation of $20.00 per tour group of the sanctuary.

In addition to providing a safe and loving environment, GLRS also strives to educate the public about domestic rabbits, including rabbit care and behavior. Just as with cats and dogs, a rabbit may not be the best furry companion for a family. We hope our educational efforts will mean fewer rabbits need our help in the future.

Every gift to this campaign helps make that safe haven and that education possible. Thank you for being part of it.
