The LGBTQ+ FAMILY CONNECTIONS CENTER is a destination counseling, emergency housing solutions, and community center providing programs, and services for LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit youth, families, and individuals in rural America.

Service Area:

200-mile radius report from Rapid City, South Dakota metro area contains five states in the Upper Great Plains, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Montana. 62 Counties, 5 States, up to 28,784 LGBTQ+ people.

Just outside Rapid City, South Dakota, surrounded by the Black Hills National Forest, minutes to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, and Badlands National Park.

Why We Are Needed:

There is a glaring lack of resources for the LGBTQ+ community in rural American communities. Our aim is to serve the LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit community in the greater Upper Great Plains community, reaching South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska and Montana. These services are costly, and we cannot do it without your help. Soon, we will purchase a humble location where we can administer these services and have a place to call home!

Your support will help us close on a new location, and begin serving LGBTQ+ youth, individuals, and their families in an area that is a desert zone for targeted LGBTQ+ support.

Our mission is to strengthen and empower LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit youth and individuals to overcome obstacles by providing housing, supportive counseling, community education, and advocacy.

As a nonprofit, we seek to fill gaps in the upper great plains’ region, in South Dakota, with outreach into North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Montana as a Counseling and Community Center with Employment Resources, Emergency Housing Solutions, and STI and HIV prevention and education.

LGBTQ+ in Rural America
Between 3% and 5% of the rural population identifies as LGBTQ+, consistent with estimates that 4.5% of the U.S. adult population.

Youth
Roughly 10% of youth identify as LGBT, with rural youth just as likely as urban youth to identify as LGBTQ+.

Total Estimated Rural LGBTQ+ Population
Between 2.9 million and 3.8 million LGBT people—or 20% of the total U.S. LGBT population—live in rural areas around the country.

Counseling: Individual, Marriage, Family, and Group therapy

Whether you are local, or traveling, we can accommodate in one of our full amenity cabins, while you seek supportive Counseling, programs and solutions.

Homelessness: Short and Medium-term rental assistance, Rapid Rehousing Resources, Runaway and Homeless Youth Services.

Addressing immediate challenges for those living on the street, or in emergency shelters, by providing rapid-rehousing with transitional housing unit, while providing tools and case management to find secure permanent housing.

Community: Foster relationships with the LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit community to educate, provide resources, and consultation to overcome obstacles.

Support and community, a place you can always connect with.

ADVOCACY:
Develop conferences and workshops for employers, churches, schools, law enforcement and general public.

Donations will be made to Transformation Project, Inc., a qualified 501(c)(3) organization and fiscal sponsor of LGBTQ+ Family Connections Center, Inc., while LGBTQ+ Family Connections Center is in the process of obtaining 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service. All donations are tax deductible.

In the event we don't make our goals, and can't close on the property, donations will be directly used for facilitating programs and services and operational expenses and are understood to be unrestricted in nature.
