Why I'm running...
I'm running in the Colfax Marathon (and organizing this fundraiser), because I believe our work matters. I have to believe it matters, I spend a lot of time on it and this world sometimes feels so broken.
After our Grapefruit Lab shows...
...people have approached me to tell me they feel seen in the stories they see us representing. If it's the friendships and search for identity depicted in WHISKEY FROM STRANGERS, if it's the queer-Covid love story in STRANGE BIRD, QUEER BIRD, if it's JANE/EYRE's feminist representations...audience members have let me know that, somehow and in someway, what we are offering to them with Grapefruit Lab's original shows matter...make them feel seen.
And in prison...
...I look around at the faces of folks I've known inside for nearly a decade, I see colleagues and friends. I think about folks who count on ACT Ensemble every week for connection, community, and artistic expression. I think about how the folks inside describe ACT Ensemble as a place where their highest selves get to thrive. I know, I have to believe, this work matters.
