Ten years ago, a handful of women stood at the edge of the ocean and decided to get in. They were survivors. They had never surfed before. And nobody could have predicted what that one session would become.

Since then, we have watched a woman with a rare degenerative disease cry with joy in the water for the first time in years. We have watched mothers and daughters ride waves side by side and walk off the beach changed. We have watched people who came to us carrying years of grief, trauma, and pain leave the ocean feeling like themselves again.

The research confirms what we already knew. Our programs produce a 68% reduction in PTSD symptoms and a 73% improvement in overall mental wellbeing. 92% of participants report feeling better after a single program. And every single one of them came for free.

That is what ten years looks like. And we are just getting started.

We are in our 10th anniversary year and launching our most ambitious fundraising campaign yet Healing Out Loud. Our goal is to raise $100,000 to fund the next decade of Groundswell: more programs, a growing intern pipeline, and the infrastructure to bring surf therapy into mainstream mental healthcare where it belongs.
