The Gap Year Association defines a gap year as "an intentional period of time devoted to personal growth and exploration through experiential learning opportunities." We believe that embodying a GROWTH MINDSET and pursuing healthy CHALLENGE are elements of the most impactful gap year experiences. When considering a gap year, we encourage students to think about the following questions:

>> What are some areas you would like to grow in?

>> What is something you've always wanted to do, but haven't made time for yet?

>> What are some experiences that might feel uncomfortable at first, but that will be enriching in the long run?

Of course, these questions are not reserved exclusively for gap year planning. They are questions that are fundamental to an enriching life guided by curiosity, growth, and lifelong learning. In that spirit, the GYA Board of Directors—a diverse group of professionals in different fields and phases of life—has decided to identify personal challenges that will help them pursue meaningful growth this summer, all to raise funds for GYA to support more gap year students.
