Why help fund DemFest? Read on...

Dance, flowers, marijuana, beer and wine all get festivals. If democracy is so important to Americans, why don’t we have democracy festivals every year in towns and cities across the country? If Washington DC is the capital of our country, and democracy is central to American freedom, why do we have folk life, cherry blossom and kite flying festivals but no national Democracy Festival?

Given mounting challenges to American democracy, Learning Life, a DC-based educational nonprofit, is organizing the second Democracy Festival (DemFest) in the U.S. capital region on Saturday, October 4, 1-6pm at All Souls Church Unitarian in Washington, DC. Please mark your calendar! DemFest 2025 builds on the first DemFest Learning Life organized in October 2024.

Learning Life is organizing DemFest 2025 in order to (a) help make democracy more fun and social, (b) widen citizen participation, (c) promote civic learning, and (d) strengthen democracy by fostering collaboration between the DC region's arts, education, business, philanthropic, and democracy sectors. We are planning a range of activities for youth and adults, including discussions, games, a democracy wall, a comedy show, a Youth Summit on Youth Policymaking, and a democracy market (i.e., organizational tables).
