In Memory of Dr. Harry Baxstrom, DVM

For more than 20 years, Dr. Harry Baxstrom, DVM played an important role in preserving a piece of Western heritage and bringing our agricultural community together.

Harry was the driving force behind what became the annual Chuckwagon Gathering. As a longtime local veterinarian with deep ties to the ranching community, he brought the idea to the La Plata–Archuleta Cattlemen’s Association as a way to preserve the tradition of chuckwagon cooking and celebrate the ranching way of life. What began as a small cook-off has grown into a beloved annual gathering that continues to bring hundreds of people together each year.

Harry cared deeply about seeing this tradition continue. Following his passing, his family generously chose the La Plata–Archuleta Cattlemen’s Association as the recipient of memorial contributions made in his honor.

Contributions made in Harry’s memory will help support the continuation of the annual Chuckwagon Gathering and the work of the Cattlemen’s Association, including youth scholarships and local beef advocacy. In this way, Harry’s legacy will continue through the traditions he worked to preserve, the agricultural community he served, and the next generation we are working to support.

We are deeply grateful to Harry’s family and to each person who chooses to honor his memory with a gift. Thank you for helping us carry forward something that meant so much to him. 🤎
