As the crisp winds of autumn return, Unity Farm Sanctuary is once again preparing for the long New England winter. And just like you may feel the pinch at the supermarket when prices rise, we’re feeling it too - this time in the hay barn.

Hay isn’t “one size fits all.” Just as people need the right food for health and energy, our animals depend on different types of hay to thrive. For our older residents, like gentle Orchid the llama, who has just a few molars left, or Midas the alpaca, who needs his hay carefully chopped - the softer, more digestible second cut hay is their lifeline.

But drought across New England has made this essential hay harder to find and more expensive. Without it, our most vulnerable animals could struggle through the cold months ahead.

That’s why we’ve set out to raise $22,000 through our Hay for Days campaign, enough to keep bellies full and bodies strong for six months. And right now, thanks to a generous donor, the first $10,000 will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling the impact of your gift.

Each of our 74 rescued animals, Dudley, Bob, Hamish, Orchid, Midas, and so many more, has a unique story and a special place in our hearts. They’re counting on us to provide not just hay, but the right hay that keeps them healthy, nourished, and loved all winter long.
