HBI STEAM Academy 2027: Turning Ideas Into Opportunity

Every young person deserves the chance to turn an idea into something real. That takes more than curiosity. It takes access to tools, guidance, and a team that encourages them to explore, create, and grow.

HBI STEAM Academy provides that opportunity. Our free afterschool program introduces middle and high school students, particularly historically underrepresented youth, to science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. A family’s ability to pay should never determine a student’s opportunity to learn, create, and lead.

Since 2016, HBI STEAM Academy has supported more than 320 students and helped them develop over 85 emerging-technology prototypes. Students have also brought their ideas to life through student-produced films, combining technology, creativity, and storytelling. Among our former students and youth mentors are individuals who have gone on to medical school, engineering school, and earned PhDs in computer science. Their journeys show what is possible and inspire the next generation to imagine a future in STEAM.

In 2027, we will offer four cohorts supporting 120 students. Our $45,000 campaign will help make these experiences possible while keeping participation free.

Students don’t simply learn about technology. They work on product-development teams to address real-world challenges. Together, they identify problems, understand the people affected, research possible solutions, and design, build, test, and refine prototypes. They then present their work and explain the thinking behind it.

With guidance from educators, mentors, and industry professionals, these teams connect technical problem-solving with business thinking and storytelling. Students practice communication, leadership, entrepreneurship, and collaboration while learning how individual contributions become a shared accomplishment.

In addition to free tuition your gift also helps provide:

· Technology, equipment, and hands-on learning materials.

· Meals and program supplies.

· Mentorship, industry engagement, and career exploration.

· Resources for student prototypes and capstone presentations.

For a student, this can be the first opportunity to see themselves as an inventor, designer, storyteller, entrepreneur, or future STEAM professional. Your support helps make that possibility tangible.

Together, we are building a student-to-STEAM career pipeline that reflects the diversity, talent, and perspectives of our communities.

Give today to help 120 students learn, build, and lead in 2027. Make a one-time or monthly gift, and share this campaign with someone who believes in what young people can create.
