The historic Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard exchange to New Zealand was established in 1979. The trip is focused around lifesaving and cultural education. The process includes an application and in-person interview with the coaches to be selected for this prestigious honor.

Tentatively, we will be hosting New Zealand's Piha and Tairua Lifeguard Teams in summer of 2027. Our team will travel to New Zealand in December 2027/January 2028. There are plenty of logistics and expenses that go into making this trip happen. There will be a variety of opportunities for fundraising over the next few years. We hope our Junior Lifeguard families and community will support this team as they prepare for this amazing opportunity.

The team is launching their first fundraiser at the Pacific Airshow, October 3-4, 2026, on the beach path at the Marine Safety Training Center, home of the HBJGs. Their next October event is the Huntington Beach Fire Department Open House on Saturday, October 10.
