Our Numbers Behind the Names

Picture Harlem on an ordinary Tuesday: a grandmother wondering if there'll be enough left for her turn, a young mother juggling children and a grocery bag that feels too light, a senior choosing between medicine and meals.

Now picture this: 40,671 times between July 2025 and May 2026, someone in our community didn't have to make that choice alone because you, and people like you, stood in the gap.

We served 6,886 children who deserve full stomachs and full hearts. We served 18,826 adults working hard to hold their families together. And we served 14,959 seniors who built this community and now need it to build them back up.

Together, that's 40,671 neighbors who left with something they needed to go an extra mile and something even more precious: the feeling that they mattered and someone cares.

Every meal carried real value! $121,953 in food and nourishment, calculated modestly at $3 per meal. But the true worth isn't in dollars for this community. It's in their child's laughter after a warm dinner. A senior's relief when the pantry bag has exactly what she needs. A father's restored dignity because he didn't have to explain an empty fridge to his kids.

A Community That Is Changing

Tell us this isn't just about hunger among children anymore:

46% were working-age adults — people with jobs and pride who still couldn't stretch their paychecks far enough.
37% were seniors — a number that should stop us all. Our elders, who built this neighborhood, are now among the most at risk of going without.
17% were children — still far too many, but a reminder that supporting families and seniors protects our youngest too.

The face of food insecurity in Harlem isn't who you'd expect. It's your neighbor with a full-time job. It's the elder who raised generations here. It's someone who never imagined needing help, until they did.

We Don't Do This Alone

Beth-Hark has been blessed by extraordinary partners. City Harvest has stood with us, providing fresh produce, frozen meals, dairy, pantry staples, holiday meals, and emergency supplies. The Food Bank of New York has helped us reach further and serve deeper. There are many more that help support the mental and emotional arms of this mission too.

But partnerships and pantry shelves are only as strong as the community that fuels them. That's where you come in.
