When a community member became aware of a family struggling to provide care for multiple cats and kittens, she reached out to HSCC to see if we could help. Our team stepped up to the plate on short notice and welcomed 15 cats - four adults and eleven kittens - into our care.

These cats came to us with suspected calicivirus, a highly contagious virus that causes mild to severe respiratory and oral disease in cats. The adults are doing well and will remain in isolation at HSCC for the next two weeks. The kittens, who are small for their ages at just 7-12 weeks old, need more intensive support. Some are being placed with medically-skilled fosters to reduce infection risk at the shelter and reduce stress for the kittens while ensuring they can be monitored consistently.

Their medical needs range from oral and ocular medications to twice daily subcutaneous fluids and heating pad support to maintain their body temperatures. For those with more severe eye infections, enucleation surgery (eye removal) may be necessary to facilitate their healing. All of the cats are receiving de-wormer, antibiotics, and will need to spay/neuter surgery before going up for adoption.

Whether in our building or in the capable hands of an attentive foster paw-rent, HSCC - through the support of donors like you - covers all of the medical expenses to ensure these cats will get the care they need.

Surgery and care for 15 cats is costly. We are seeking the help of our generous, animal-loving community to help these cats recuperate successfully so, once fully stabilized, we can help usher them into loving homes where their futures will be filled with comfort and joy.

As we look at all that will be needed for them in the weeks ahead, we hope you will consider making a contribution to their recovery or share this campaign to help us raise the funds necessary to respond to this unexpected need.

With gratitude,

The HSCC Team
