Help Emmie Walk Again

Last night, Emmie couldn’t get up.

This sweet girl has been part of Cotton Branch for a long time. She is one of those familiar faces who becomes woven into the everyday rhythm of the refuge.

And suddenly, everything changed.

Emmie is currently unable to use her rear legs.

She still has sensation along her back, lower back, and belly, which gives us some information, but right now we do not know what is causing this.

That uncertainty is terrifying.

When something like this happens, your mind immediately starts running through every possibility. Could it be neurological? Could something be affecting her spine or nerves? Could there be an infection or another underlying condition we have not found yet?

Right now, those are only questions.

What Emmie needs are answers.

She needs a veterinary evaluation, X-rays and imaging, and potentially additional diagnostics so we can understand what is happening inside her body and determine the best way forward.

We have already started supportive treatment while we work to get those answers, and we are doing everything we can to keep her comfortable, supported, and cared for.

But this is not something we can simply wait and hope resolves on its own.

We need to raise $3,000 for Emmie.

Those funds will help cover:

Veterinary evaluation
X-rays and imaging
Additional diagnostics
Medication and treatment
Supportive care
Any immediate medical needs that arise as we learn more

For now, our days with Emmie look very different.

We are helping her move. Supporting her body. Watching carefully for changes. Making sure she is eating, comfortable, and surrounded by the people who know her.

And whenever we can, we are getting her upright.

We do not know yet what recovery will look like.

We cannot promise that she will walk again.

But we can promise that we are going to give her every possible chance.

That is what rescue means to us.

Sometimes it is saving an animal from a terrible situation. Sometimes it is nursing someone through years of recovery. And sometimes it is waking up one morning to discover that a pig you love suddenly cannot stand and realizing that every other plan for the day has just changed.

You stop.

You help her up.

You start looking for answers.

And you stay beside her.

That is exactly what we are doing for Emmie.

Please help us give her that chance.

If you can donate toward her $3,000 emergency goal, every gift will help us move closer to the diagnostics and care she needs.

If you cannot donate, sharing Emmie’s story can be just as important. It may put her in front of the person who can help us take the next step.

Right now, we have far more questions than answers.

But Emmie has us.

And as long as she is fighting, we are going to keep fighting right beside her. ❤️
