During the summer, temperatures in Los Angeles can become dangerously hot. For the dogs at the West LA Animal Shelter, that means the only time they get to leave their kennels each day can quickly become unsafe.

Instead of enjoying enrichment, training, and much-needed time outside, many dogs are forced back inside because the yards simply become too hot.

Big Dog Energy recently purchased and installed three commercial-grade shade canopies at the West LA Animal Shelter. After seeing the canopies in action, shelter staff loved them—and asked if we could help shade the rest of the play yards.

Now we’re asking for your help to finish what we started.

Our Goal

We’re raising funds to purchase six additional commercial-grade canopies, allowing us to significantly increase the shaded space across all three play yards.

These canopies won’t just help during the hottest days of summer—they’ll also remain in place to provide shelter from the rain throughout the winter.

Every day, they’ll create a safer, more comfortable place for shelter dogs to:

Where Your Donation Goes

Each commercial-grade canopy costs $300.

Our total project cost is just under $2,000.
