Hello supporters, friends, and family! We need your help. On Saturday Jan 22, 2022 the sweetest senior kitty with the most devastating story, Whiskey, joined us at Kitten Nursery Club. While in our care this last week, we have learned that he is estimated to be 10+ years old, on top of his really bad (4 out of 6) heart murmur. Furthermore, he has SEVERE stomatitis, and needs a full mouth extraction. On Sunday Jan 23, we secured an appointment for his dental to be evaluated, and moved forward with a 14 tooth extraction. We need help trying to pay his bill off, and on top of that, trying to raise more funds to take him in to be seen by a cardio-specialist/ fund any medications that may help him live a longer and more comfortable life. Though he has been granted a rough life these last few months, he is a loving, happy, gentle giant and master purr-engine, that adores being showered with kisses and love. Whiskey is still in need of a furrever family as well, to spend the rest of his senior days in.

Here is his story: Whiskey (formerly Risky), is a survivor from South LA Animal Shelter. He spent upwards of 4 months (May 8, 2021 - August 18, 2021) caged and being treated for various skin conditions and abscesses at South LA, only to be deemed unadoptable and needing rescue.

At this time, Sevin’s Sanctuary from NorCal stepped up to save him from euthanasia and he spent some time in SoCal with a foster. After seeing a private vet upon release, they learned that Whiskey had a rally bad heart murmur, (which was not mentioned in any of the medical evaluation done at South LA), on top of his intense dental case. After a few months in SoCal, Risky was transported to NorCal, and his dental work was estimated to be approximately $1.2k, if he even made it through the anesthesia. Sevin’s Sanctuary provided him palliative care, and kept him comfortable with antibiotics, pain reliever/ anti-inflammatory meds, but did not have the budget to fund his dental case. Whiskey was not thriving in the sanctuary environment, he was depressed being housed with so many other resident cats, and his mouth really needed work. From November 2021-January 2022, Whiskey remained in NorCal with no further medical work done.

Since our organization is called “Kitten” Nursery Club, you may wonder, how did he end up with us? He is our first senior rescue, and hopefully with your support, he won’t be our last. Our president, Smarica Poudyal, met him briefly at his foster’s house back in August when he spent some time in SoCal (before being transported up North). This was a shared foster, who had been fostering another kitty for our organization, on top of fostering Whiskey for Sevin’s Sanctuary. When our team recently learned Whiskeys situation and how miserable he was, we knew something had to be done. Our president reached out to the Sanctuary to arrange a transfer, and to his previous LA foster to give him a loving space to stay, and developed a plan to transport him back here and get the medical care he needs.

We are expecting his case to cost us a couple thousand dollars. With our rescue discount, his dental work with 14 tooth extractions was upwards of a $800 bill.
