herScript is growing. From our five active chapters at The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas at San Antonio, The University of North Texas, The University of Houston, and Texas Southern University, we are preparing to expand even further across Texas and beyond. Our next phase includes strengthening existing chapters, launching additional campus programs, and developing post-collegiate initiatives to support members as they transition into the workforce. herStory City Tour
A statewide initiative bringing programming and community engagement to cities across Texas, ensuring equitable access to resources, mentorship, and opportunities. By taking herScript directly into local communities, we expand beyond campuses to reach students, professionals, and K–12 youth who are ready to explore technology.
AfroTech Sessions for Students
Curated experiences during AfroTech to connect Black students with recruiters, executives, and industry leaders, ensuring they leave with not just inspiration, but real opportunities.
herStory Conference 2026
Our signature annual conference, centered on Black women in technology, featuring panels, workshops, and storytelling that build community and amplify the voices of students and professionals alike.
K–12 STEM Day
A statewide initiative introducing younger students to hands-on coding, robotics, and STEM exploration, inspiring the next generation of innovators at an early age.
Post-Collegiate Affairs Program
New pathways for recent graduates and young professionals to receive mentorship, career coaching, and opportunities to give back to younger students — creating a full-circle ecosystem of support.

Why This Matters

In a world where innovation drives every industry, Black women are still critically underrepresented in technology:

Black women represent only 2% of the tech workforce in the United States, despite making up 13% of the overall population.
Only 3% of Black women have earned degrees in computer science, compared to 15% of White women.
Over 80% of Black women in tech report feeling isolated in their workplaces, contributing to high turnover.
Nearly 50% leave tech jobs within their first five years, often due to lack of support and advancement opportunities.
Less than 1% hold executive-level positions in technology.

This underrepresentation is not just a statistic — it is a barrier to innovation and progress. Diverse teams are 35% more likely to outperform their peers, yet without investment in representation, innovation stagnates.

Our Mission

Founded by Maame Abena Boateng and Demilade Awosika-Olumo, herScript is an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission to empower Black women and students from all majors to break into the technology industry.

We are not just preparing students for careers — we are creating a movement where Black women feel seen, valued, and equipped to thrive. Whether they are studying public health, biology, business, engineering, or computer science, herScript helps students find their place in technology across fields like program management, user experience design, consulting, software engineering, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

Donation Tiers: How You Can Make a Difference

Every contribution directly impacts students and fuels our expansion:

$100 — Provides meals and supplies for a student attending a workshop or skill-building event.
$300— Sponsors one student’s full access to AfroTech Sessions, connecting them with recruiters and industry leaders.
$500 — Covers certification exam fees (such as AWS, Scrum, or Data Analytics) for multiple students to boost their career readiness.
$1,000 — Funds a campus workshop or hackathon, equipping 30–50 students with hands-on technical training.
$2,500 — Provides travel and lodging for a group of students to attend major industry conferences such as AfroTech or NSBE.
$5,000 — Supports the launch of a new chapter at a Texas university, bringing herScript programming to an entire campus.
$10,000+ (Corporate/Partner Tier) — Sponsors a major herScript initiative such as the herStory City Tour, herStory Conference, or K–12 STEM Day, with recognition as a lead partner in empowering Black women in technology.
