Can you imagine walking 60 miles a week to gain a meager $7?

This is approximately the distance of walking from Duluth to Two Harbors, and back, every week as a way to provide a home for your children.

Then imagine that home is a 9 foot by 9 foot room with a roof that leaks. When it rains at night you must hold an umbrella over your three children so they can sleep on the full mattress you share with them. Then every month you have to pay $7 to your landlord to live in that home.

How would you also be able to provide an education for your children in a country without a free education option?

This is the life of many in Rwanda.

Specifically, this is Diane’s story.

As an uneducated single mother of three, each day is a fight. Her love for her children runs deep, but the opportunities to care for them are limited.

We want to come alongside Diane, and many others, to fight for their right to live a life of splendor. To live a life that’s not simply about survival, but pursuing the dreams and passions God placed in them.

How are we doing this?

By walking.

To be more specific, hiking the entirety of Northern Minnesota’s Superior HIking Trail (310+ miles/498+ kilometers) this year.

Our goal is to raise awareness of families, like Diane’s, who face poverty and its painful robbing of hope in their lives.

Donate towards our hiking journey. Funds go towards Rooted Oaks International’s partnership with families living in poverty in Rwanda through child and adult education/job training.
