QUÉ ES POSITIVA? / WHAT IS POSITIVA?

Nueve artistas latinoamericanos que viven con vih se reúnen desde 25 al 30 de marzo de 2024 en una residencia artística en Quito - Ecuador en el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo (CAC), uno de los más importantes museos del país y desde la mitad del mundo, para imaginar la cura del vih desde las expresiones artísticas.
Nine Latin American artists living with HIV meet from March 25 to 30, 2024 in an artistic residency in Quito - Ecuador at the Contemporary Art Center (CAC), one of the most important museums in the country and from the middle of the world, to imagine the cure for HIV through artistic expressions.

Su trabajo abre diálogos desde la sabiduría de las comunidades positivas localizadas en sus países de origen para imaginar la cura del VIH desde las artes. A su vez, desde la memoria comunitaria latinoamericana crean un espacio de expresión que convierta a Latinoamérica en un territorio seguro para quienes viven y conviven con VIH.
Their work initiates dialogues from the wisdom of positive communities in their home countries to envision an HIV cure through the arts. Simultaneously, drawing from Latin American communal memory, they create a space of expression to make Latin America a safe territory for those living with and alongside HIV.

Su participación genera nueve obras que serán expuestas en una muestra en el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Quito desde 26 de abril al 1 de septiembre de 2024.
Their participation yields nine artworks showcased in an exhibition at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Quito from April 26 to September 1, 2024.

Tanto la residencia como la exhibición se convierten en un oportunidad para generar insumos para un programa educativo que invite a comunidades y público en general a discutir el tema durante 6 meses y esta experiencia puede ser replicada en otras ciudades de con tu apoyo.
Both the residency and exhibition provide an opportunity to generate input for an educational program inviting communities and the public to discuss the topic for six months and this experience can be replicated in othe cities with your support.

Los aprendizajes y conocimientos reunidos se transformarán en un espacio virtual multimedial disponible en internet de libre acceso.

Todxs somos humanxs vulnerables y todxs tenemos la posibilidad de contraer VIH, enfermarnos o adquirir una condición de salud en algún momento de nuestras vidas, por esto, deseamos hacer del cuidado colectivo como el propósito central en la transformación de nuestros territorios y donar este espacio de expresión a las comunidades que viven y conviven con VIH.

Convertir la residencia Positiva en un proyecto global que exija el trabajo conjunto de comunidades y organismos internacionales para terminar con el estigma y la discriminación y encontra la cura.

We are all vulnerable humans, and everyone has the possibility of contracting HIV, getting sick, or acquiring a health condition at some point in our lives. Therefore, we aim to make collective care the central purpose in transforming our territories and donate this space of expression to communities living and coexisting with HIV.

Turn the Positiva residency into a global project that demands joint efforts from communities and international organizations to end stigma and discrimination and find the cure.

Imaginar y crear juntxs la cura del vih.

Situar la cura como una posibilidad futura implica para nosotrxs, artistas y activistas, crear espacios de intercambio e inventar nuevos lenguajes y estéticas, en donde el horizonte radical sea nuestra defensa de la vida y el derecho a tener vidas placenteras y libres. Futuros donde nuestras vidas importen y transmuten cada una de las relaciones sociales para exigir una respuesta global al VIH.

Implica además seguir construyendo comunidades libres de discriminación y estigma para perder el miedo al VIH y de esta manera crear un mundo donde existan más posibilidades para estar juntxs.

Enviosioning the cure as a future possibility involves, for us, artists and activists, to create spaces for exchange and inventing new languages and aesthetics. The radical horizon becomes our defense of life and the right to lead pleasurable and free lives. Futures where our lives matter and transform every social relationship to demand a global response to HIV.

It also means continuing to build communities free from discrimination and stigma to eliminate the fear of HIV and thereby create a world with more possibilities for togetherness.

Background and Involved Institutions.

Residencia “Positiva” 2016 - Lasicalíptica

Lasicalíptica es un proyecto editorial que nace en el 2013. Difunde y exhibe obras de arte y artículos de artistas latinoamericanos cuya obra está atravesada por temáticas de sexualidad, género y VIH.

En 2015 Lasicalíptica produjo la primera residencia artística con creadores VIH positivos en Latinoamérica: “Positiva”, proyecto que reunió a ocho artistas latinoamerican

os de la región en Quito con el propósito de generar un espacio de diálogo, reflexión y la creación de obras desde la perspectiva de las personas que conviven con el virus. La residencia constituyó un hito en el arte contemporáneo del Ecuador, así como un referente para las comunidades artísticas, de personas que viven con VIH y de la academia, galardonada incluso con el Premio Mariano Aguilera de las Artes, el premio más importante del país a las prácticas artísticas contemporáneas.

La residencia y sus memorias tuvieron un alcance nacional y regional generando discusiones e interacciones que hicieron eco en los trabajos de todos los participantes y sus públicos. Las obras artísticas generadas fueron expuestas en el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo / CAC en el 2016, abriendo un diálogo durante todo un año en el museo, divulgando nuestro mensaje a miles de personas y comunidades.

Artistic Residency “Positiva” 2016 - Lasicalíptica

Lasicalíptica is an editorial project that originated in 2013. It disseminates and showcases artworks and articles by Latin American artists whose work revolves around themes of sexuality, gender, and HIV.

In 2015, Lasicalíptica produced the first artistic residency with HIV-positive creators in Latin America: "Positiva," a project that brought together eight Latin American artists in Quito. The aim was to create a space for dialogue, reflection, and the generation of artworks from the perspective of individuals living with the virus. The residency marked a milestone in Ecuador's contemporary art scene and became a reference for artistic communities, individuals living with HIV, and academia. It was even honored with the Mariano Aguilera Arts Award, the country's most prestigious award for contemporary artistic practices.

The residency and its memories had a national and regional impact, sparking discussions and interactions that resonated in the works of all participants and their audiences. The artworks created during the residency were exhibited at the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) in 2016, initiating a year-long dialogue within the museum and spreading our message to thousands of people and communities.

MoVIHlízate

MoVIHlízate es una plataforma que reúne a jóvenes que viven y conviven con VIH provenientes de diversas organizaciones a nivel nacional. Desde el 2018 trabaja una agenda de abogacía e incidencia política, veeduría social para la promoción y ejercicio de los derechos humanos de adolescentes, jóvenes, población clave y personas que viven con VIH en Ecuador.

Su trabajo es considerado por el Fondo de Poblaciones de Naciones Unidas de Ecuador como una buena práctica en la medida que involucra a comunidades diversas de jóvenes (mujeres, población LBGTIQ, personas afrodescendientes e indígenas) en la respuesta nacional al VIH.

MoVIHlízate is a platform that brings together young people living and coexisting with HIV from various national organizations. Since 2018, it has worked on an advocacy and political incidence agenda, social oversight for the promotion and exercise of human rights for adolescents, youth, key populations, and people living with HIV in Ecuador.

Its work is recognized by the United Nations Population Fund of Ecuador as a good practice because it involves diverse communities of young people (women, LGBTQIA+ population, Afro-descendants, and indigenous people) in the national response to HIV.

Centro de Arte Contemporáneo / CAC

El Centro de Arte Contemporáneo es el único museo de la ciudad de Quito dedicado exclusivamente al arte contemporáneo, espacio que se reconoce, tanto a nivel local como regional, como una plataforma activa de diálogo, acción, participación e incidencia de los actores culturales y sociales.

Difunde prácticas artísticas contemporáneas a través de procesos de Circulación, Transferencia y Relaciones con la Comunidad, más de tres mil personas lo visitan mensualmente, con el objetivo de fortalecer y fomentar la participación de la ciudadanía en búsqueda del desarrollo cultural de los saberes artísticos además de contribuir al pensamiento y el intercambio de ideas a través de las artes.

The Centro de Arte Contemporáneo is the only museum in Quito dedicated exclusively to contemporary art. Recognized locally and regionally as an active platform for dialogue, action, participation, and influence by cultural and social actors.

It promotes contemporary artistic practices through Circulation, Transfer, and Community Relations processes. Over three thousand people visit it monthly, aiming to strengthen and encourage citizen participation in the cultural development of artistic knowledge while contributing to thought and the exchange of ideas through the arts.
