When school cafeterias close for the summer, many kids lose access to the meals they count on during the school year. Healthy Lincoln County runs one of Maine’s largest Summer Meals networks, offering free, nutritious meals at locations and along mobile routes in communities across our region.

Recent changes to federal eligibility rules mean that some long-standing meal sites no longer qualify for reimbursement, even though kids still rely on them. Federal support helps, but it no longer covers the full cost of keeping local sites open and making sure meals reach kids where they live.

That’s where our community comes in.

When free school meals end for the summer, many kids lose the breakfasts and lunches they count on every day.

We’re raising $50,000 by June 30 as part of a $75,000 summer goal to:

Restore local meal sites that no longer qualify for federal reimbursement
Support mobile delivery so kids can access meals close to home
Cover essential costs like staff time, supplies, transportation, and food safety needs
Strengthen access in rural communities

Federal rules changed, not the need. Kids and families still count on these meal sites each summer, and local support helps close the gap so access remains strong.
