HOPE Beyond Bars is an eight-session, peer-led program designed to support men at the Oconee County Detention Center as they prepare for successful re-entry into the community. Facilitated by Certified Peer Support Specialist Jonathan Rasmussen, this initiative combines mental health support, trauma recovery, coping skill development, and faith-based mentorship in a structured, encouraging environment.

Participants learn through discussion, role-play, coaching, and personal reflection, guided by a curriculum focused on personal transformation and accountability. The program addresses mental health stabilization, emotional regulation, future planning, integrity, forgiveness, and family restoration. Participants are guided through real-life strategies that build resilience and prepare them to renew their lives and rebuild their futures. Upon completion of all eight sessions and submission of key reflection components, participants receive a Steadfast HOPE Certificate of Completion.

By equipping men with supportive relationships and essential life skills, the program enhances mental health, encourages responsible decision-making, and reduces recidivism. The ultimate goal is to foster lasting positive change, break the cycle of reoffending, and reinforce the OCDC Harm Reduction mission of personal transformation and re-entry readiness.
