We have three incredible (now grown-up) kids. Nathan, Ethan, and Raegan.

When he was two, Ethan was diagnosed with a rare disease, a peroxisomal biogenesis disorder. Peroxisomal disorders are rare genetic disorders that cause deafness, blindness, global developmental delays, adrenal insufficiency, neurological issues, and feeding issues, and are almost always terminal in childhood. Receiving a diagnosis like this and then caring for a child with a rare disease is difficult, isolating, and often overwhelming. Thankfully, we were able to lean on The Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders (GFPD) to help connect us with other families navigating this rare disease and with educational and support resources specifically designed for families like ours.

But...Ethan has beaten all odds and is thriving. He works out, walks his dog, and has his own business, SmoothE's.

For 15 years, the GFPD has been connecting hundreds of patients, families, and caregivers worldwide who face the daily challenges of living with a peroxisomal disorder. The GFPD provides conferences, online support groups, direct parent-to-parent mentoring programs, educational programs for patients and physicians, medical equipment exchanges, bereavement programs, and funding for medical and scientific research.
