How Will You Pay For Your Film? Fundraising from Producers Who Know

You have a brilliant idea for a film, but you can’t make it without crew, actors, gear…and paying your own rent. All those things cost money, but where do you find it?

Join us for an afternoon learning strategies and tips for effectively financing a film from two producers with decades of experience in the industry, particularly making and distributing documentaries. We’ll screen scenes from their work and discuss the ins and outs of raising money to achieve a director's vision. There will also be ample time for the audience to ask questions.

Cynthia Kane (she/her)

In addition to decades of experience producing award-winning feature documentaries, Cynthia has also worked on the distribution and funding side of documentary film making for such outlets as the Sundance Channel (co-created DOCday), ITVS (shepherded both international and U.S. co-productions for public media) & Al Jazeera America ( commissioned documentaries and series including Albert Maysles’ final work, IN TRANSIT and duPont Award-winning series, Kartemquin Films’ HARD EARNED). Cynthia's recent films include: Death by Numbers, Call Me Dancer, Obsessed with Light, and many more.

Joey Carey (he/him)

Joey is a founding partner of Sundial Pictures. He’s worked on films across a variety of genres, both scripted and documentary, including Jiro Dreams Of Sushi and filled a range of roles from Director, Producer, Cinematographer, and Editor. He has partnered with distribution companies such as A24, Magnolia Pictures, Focus Features, Samuel Goldwyn, and Oscilloscope. Joey has produced content with clients such as Univision, Conde Nast, Fusion, Repetto, JD Sports, DoorDash, and HUDSY.

Are you a filmmaker looking to level up your game?

Whether you are creating your own films, or making yourself more marketable in the industry, HUDSY Workshops is a place to learn production skills and get advice from seasoned professionals with roots in the Hudson Valley.

We will host monthly Saturday workshops this winter and spring in HUDSYs new Studio B at the 721 Media building in Kingston, NY.

Each workshop will feature experts from different facets of the industry presenting on topics aimed at helping up and coming filmmakers. Presenters will include everything from producers and directors, to composers and music supervisors, to cinematographers, audio engineers and post-production experts.

In addition to the core theme, each workshop will also make ample time for Q&A from the audience, as well as networking afterwards. HUDSY Workshops is another way to be a part of the vibrant HUDSY creative community.
