In the heart of Moroto–Karamoja, one of Uganda’s most impoverished and remote regions, a quiet revolution is taking place. At Meraki Missions International, we are honored to be among the few called to serve here—bringing hope, health, and tangible care to the people who need it most.

This year, our focus is clear: restoring dignity through hygiene, sanitation, and nourishment.

Most families here live without access to a toilet. No latrines. No clean water sources. Children and the elderly often go days without food or bathing. Many relieve themselves in bushes, never having experienced a designated space for such a basic human need.

But this is more than a matter of discomfort—over 800 children under five die each day from preventable diseases linked to poor sanitation, and when paired with malnutrition, the risk of death from infections like diarrhea increases up to nine times. These are not just statistics—they are the reality for our children in Karamoja.

That’s why we’re working to build five sustainable latrine structures this year. With just $5,000, we can drastically reduce disease, preserve dignity, and protect lives.

At the same time, our Porridge Program feeds over 100 malnourished children three times a week, offering a simple but lifesaving mix of porridge and milk. This effort extends to support young mothers, encouraging them to keep and care for their babies in a place where survival is a daily battle.

We pair each meal with hygiene education, empowering the next generation with knowledge to protect their health and their future.
