The Reality Check

It’s no secret that reduced funding has forced IFTAS to scale back. We’ve had to close several services and activities over the last year. But we're not done. We still have core, vital work to do, and we still have regular bills to pay.

Right now, we need a reliable, community-funded baseline just to cover our server hosting costs and essential operating fees. We want to keep our doors open, maintain our independence, and continue fighting for a safe, healthy social web.

What Your One a Month Sustains

When you join the 500, you are directly funding the core infrastructure that supports the entire ecosystem. Here is what we are still actively doing every single day:

Continuously monitor, update, and publish our widely used safety resources, including the IFTAS DNI List and the Abandoned and Unmanaged Domain List.
Operate the SW-ISAC (Social Web Information Sharing and Analysis Centre) and the CARIAD service to facilitate threat intelligence sharing across the Fediverse.
Convene and support moderators, admins, and developers in our chat groups, providing immediate peer support and crisis sharing.
Champion a culture of shared knowledge, maintaining our open Community Library of Trust & Safety resources.
Conduct the annual Community Needs Assessment survey of administrators, moderators, and community managers to ascertain their needs and priorities.
Show up where it matters. We attend major conferences to speak directly with legislators and regulators, advocate for more resources, and bring insights back to the wider Trust & Safety community. (Note: While Jaz covers his own travel out of pocket, IFTAS relies on your support to cover conference registration fees).

Looking Ahead

Keeping the lights on today allows us to build for tomorrow. With a stable foundation, our next major strategic goal is to establish a formal non-profit entity inside the European Union. This will allow us to better support our massive European community, access regional resources, and advocate even more effectively with international regulators.
