Many people knew Dave Carroll as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Before he was any of those things, he was "Trooper Carroll”, with the Kansas State Highway Patrol who dedicated himself to serving and protecting others. The uniform was only part of who he was. The qualities that made him an exceptional trooper, integrity, humility, courage, and an unwavering commitment to doing what was right, defined the way he lived every day of his life.

Those who knew Dave understood that he commanded respect not through rank or authority, but through character. He was a man of strong convictions, quiet confidence, and deep compassion. He held himself to a high standard and inspired those around him to do the same. Whether serving his community, caring for his family, or offering guidance to others, Dave led by example.

In honor of Dave's life and legacy, his family have chosen to support Status Code 4, an organization dedicated to the mental health and well-being of first responders and their families. Dave understood the sacrifices made by those who answer the call to serve. He knew that behind every badge, uniform, and emergency vehicle is a human being carrying burdens that are often unseen.

Status Code 4 Inc. was created in 2017 following the numerous reports of First Responder suicides across the United States and Canada. SC4I is in the unique position to intimately understand the stressors associated with being a First Responder. The results of these stressors contribute to a vast number of issues. These issues include depression, anxiety, PTSD, Compassion Fatigue, divorce, domestic violence, and substance abuse.
