For more than two decades, FireKeepers International has worked to strengthen communities through advocacy, resilience education, cultural engagement, storytelling, music, and relationship-building. Along the way, we have had the privilege of sharing the experiences, perspectives, and wisdom of Native American communities, Jewish communities, veterans, and people of faith whose lives reflect perseverance, service, and hope.

Today, we are launching Phase 1 of Project Indigenous Voices, a multi-phase initiative to establish a dedicated media and communications hub that will support our educational, advocacy, and community-building efforts for years to come.

Project Indigenous Voices will allow FireKeepers International to host virtual Good Medicine Experiences, conduct interviews, record podcasts, document community programs, create educational content, and expand our ability to communicate with the audiences we serve.

For years, we assumed our technical struggles were simply the result of living in a rural area with limited internet access. When high-speed fiber internet finally became available, we expected our livestream interruptions, frozen Zoom calls, failed uploads, and other technical headaches to disappear. Instead, they continued. The catalyst for diagnosis came after a particularly embarrassing series of crashes while we were featured on an international livestream with a huge organization. After investigating the issue more closely, we discovered that the primary problem was no longer our internet connection—it was our archaic computers and outdated equipment, which could no longer reliably handle the demands of modern livestreaming, virtual meetings, video production, and content creation.

Phase 1 focuses on acquiring the core equipment necessary to establish a functional media capability, including computer systems, media production equipment, audio equipment, and essential recording and communications tools. In addition to acquiring the equipment necessary to establish a functional media capability, Phase 1 includes the organizational infrastructure required to transform an existing room into a dedicated media workspace. Shelving and storage systems will allow existing materials and program supplies to be safely organized and relocated, creating the space needed for recording, editing, virtual programming, and content production. Phase 1 also includes an initial investment in professional video editing services to ensure that stories, educational content, and community programs can be shared effectively while FireKeepers builds long-term media capacity.

Project Indigenous Voices is not simply a technology project—it is a long-term investment in FireKeepers International's ability to advocate, educate, and build community. Phase 1 establishes the essential infrastructure needed to begin that work at a higher level. Future phases will expand our ability to amplify underrepresented voices, document transformative programs, preserve cultural knowledge, strengthen cross-cultural relationships, and inspire resilience, purpose, and leadership in the communities we serve.

FireKeepers has always sought to be a careful steward of resources and is typically open to acquiring second-hand equipment, donated materials, or alternative solutions when appropriate. However, because this project involves content creation, digital security, compatibility requirements, and long-term operational reliability, specific core equipment must be purchased to meet the technical demands of the project.

This investment is not simply about technology. It is about expanding our ability to advocate effectively, strengthen community connections, document important cultural and educational work, and share messages of resilience and hope with audiences across the country and around the world.
