Who is AfroLA?

AfroLA is a community-powered news media organization rooted in Los Angeles. We exist to reflect and represent the city’s Black and other marginalized communities, telling the stories too often overlooked by mainstream media.

Our efforts focus on serving our readers by providing local awareness and quality-of-life information, while highlighting community impact to keep our residents and neighborhoods deeply connected and informed.

How do we serve our community?

We amplify the voices of everyday Angelenos, report on issues that shape daily life, and dig into residential and community concerns that affect our families, jobs, and future. From in-depth investigations and culture-centered features, to our local For Us, By Us teen book club, to mentoring emerging journalists at community colleges, and highlighting Black entrepreneurs and small businesses, AfroLA is more than news...We are by, for and of the community!

Los Angeles deserves a local voice that reflects its people.
