✨WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Dear friends,

Indigenous Peoples’ Day Philly, Inc. (IPD PHILLY) was founded in 2017 by three Indigenous women who organized an event in Philadelphia to honor the history and culture of the Lenape, Taíno, and all Native Americans now connected to the region. This event revealed the need for an official pan-Indigenous-led organization, and IPD Philly has since become the leading organization in Philadelphia focused on recognizing the First Peoples of the Americas.

Today we offer a variety of educational workshops that highlight Indigenous issues, histories, and experiences. In addition, our team actively advocates for Indigenous rights, and is dedicated to sharing Indigenous stories through our media efforts.

Strategy for 2026

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States, we have an ambitious plan to strengthen Indigenous power in Philadelphia:

**IPD Philly Annual Event**
On Monday Oct 12th, 2026, we are organizing the 10th Indigenous Peoples Day at Shackamaxon (Penn Treaty Park).

**Elevating Indigenous Voices**
We are amplifying the presence of Lenape (Delaware) federally recognized tribal members at our annual event and across Lenapehoking

**Media Justice Initiatives**
We were awarded a grant to create media work that will support our campaing to reinstate IPD as the official holiday on the second Monday of every October.

**Education Initiatives**
We are preparing new Coalition Building Workshops for adults and k-12 graders, and for a Decolonial Climate Justice training event in 2026.

**Advocacy and Policy Change**
We are advocating relentlessly for the mandatory inclusion of tribal history in Pennsylvania schools

We are fiercely campaigning for the permanent observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day on the second Monday of October . Following the Pennsylvania court's unjust decision to overturn the holiday, we are mobilizing Philadelphians to fight for truth, unity, and justice.
