Hi, I'm Kristiana.

I run Island Dawgz SAI, a grassroots animal rescue and welfare program on the island of San Andrés, Colombia.

I never planned to start a rescue. I simply couldn't keep walking past the suffering.

Over the past several years, I've:

🐾 Rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed dozens of abandoned, neglected, abused, and sick dogs.

✂️ Helped facilitate more than 60 spay and neuter surgeries throughout the community.

❤️‍🩹 Hundreds of animals helped in street and neighborhood outreach - providing medications and food for animals in need.

🏡 Provided full-time care for 9+ rescued dogs while continuing to feed and help many more street (barrio) dogs across the island.

Every week I meet dogs that are painfully thin, covered in fleas and ticks, carrying heavy parasite loads, and simply trying to survive.

I've seen what one dewormer, flea and tick treatment, and heartworm preventative can do.

Dogs gain weight, their coats grow back, the constant itching stops. They finally have energy again. Sometimes a single round of medication completely changes the course of a dog's life.

That's why I want to build something bigger than emergency rescue.

My Goal

I'm creating a rolling rescue fund so I always have food and life-saving medications on hand whenever I meet a dog that needs help.

Instead of scrambling to raise money every time I find another suffering animal, I'll be able to treat them immediately.

The fund will help provide:

Flea & tick prevention
Dewormers
Heartworm prevention
Basic medical supplies
Emergency veterinary care
Food for rescued and community dogs

I'm also working to strengthen the sanctuary itself.

Our rescued dogs deserve safe, secure spaces to live and flourish. Donations will also help build stronger fencing, safer kennel areas, improve shelter structures, and invest in the infrastructure needed to care for these animals for years to come.

This isn't just about the nine dogs already in my care.

But being able to say yes when I meet the next hungry puppy searching through the trash, the next injured stray, or the next dog suffering from something that is completely treatable.

San Andrés has thousands of free-roaming dogs, and resources for them are incredibly limited. This work is built through compassion, persistence, and people who believe every animal deserves a chance - community, you.

Every donation - whether it's enough for a dewormer, a bag of food, a month's worth of parasite prevention, or materials for secure fencing -directly supports the animals.

Thank you for believing their lives matter.

With gratitude,

Kristiana
