Hi, I’m Kristiana — and along with my husband (a native islander), we run Island Dawgz SAI, a grassroots animal welfare project on the tiny island of San Andrés, Colombia.

We started this work out of love and necessity. Over the past few years, we've rescued, treated, and cared for dozens of abandoned dogs — some sick, feral, or abused — while also helping community members feed and care for their pets. We currently have 10+ dogs in our full-time care, including:

3 feral mothers slowly being socialized
Several adult rescues, including trauma survivors
One new 4-week-old puppy (Bodey), recently found abandoned and covered in maggots
Plus many more in the community we've helped with food, medication, and emergency care

We are over capacity and stretched thin — emotionally, physically, and financially — but we won’t stop showing up for these animals. What we desperately need now is:

✅ Immediate Priorities

Outdoor kennel compound for 4 dogs currently without secure housing
Safe quarantine space for new intakes (especially after 2 recent rescues tested positive for distemper)
Ongoing vet care for spay/neuters, illnesses, and emergencies
Medications, flea/tick treatments, and nutritious food for our residents and community dogs

We're doing everything we can with what we have — building dog houses from scrap, growing produce on our land, and hand-preparing meals to keep costs low. But we’ve reached a point where we can’t do this alone.

💔 The Situation on San Andrés:

San Andrés is a small island facing massive overpopulation, poverty, and lack of services. Animal welfare here is virtually nonexistent. Street dogs (called Criollos) are often neglected, abused, or discarded — while the demand for imported "purebred" dogs worsens the crisis. We receive calls almost daily to help sick, injured, or abandoned animals.

We’re asking for your support to continue this life-saving work. Every dollar goes directly toward:

Dog food (dry + whole food like rice, fish, veggies, meat)
Vet visits, hospitalization, and medications
Construction of safe outdoor kennels, fencing, and quarantine areas
Community outreach and animal care support

We are not a large organization. We are a husband-and-wife team building this from the ground up. We do this because no one else is — and because these animals deserve safety, love, and a second chance.
