Guardian ad Litem (GAL) State Guidelines Training

This training is for those wishing to fulfill the requirements to become a civil family law Guardian ad Litem in Indiana, focusing on state-mandated guidelines, responsibilities, and practices related to GAL work in family law cases.

This comprehensive program is designed to comply with the initial training requirements of the GAL Guidelines. It consists of two essential components:

(1) Live Instruction: Registration with Kids' Voice includes 7 hours of live training on February 23, 2026. Participants can attend in person or virtually but must identify which option they will do by February 18th.

(2) Online Training: A self-paced online Core Training Program is also required as part of the GAL Guidelines. This training is provided by Kids’ Voice and the Indiana Supreme Court through the Indiana Judicial Branch Education Network. You will be notified when access to the online Core Training Program in the Network is granted, as part of completing your GAL Application. For attorneys, the live training compenent has been approved for 7.0 hours of CLE credit, including 1.0 hour of ethics credit.

Is this training for me?

This training is for individuals who wish to become civil family law Guardians ad Litem and practicing civil family law Guardians ad Litem who have not received a waiver of the initial training requirement from the GAL Family Law Oversight Committee for appointments on or after January 1, 2025. You may be eligible for a waiver if you have served as a guardian ad litem for at least three years or if you have served as a Guardian ad Litem on at least ten cases prior to January 1, 2025.
