On August 15th, the anniversary of independence and the bloody Partition, abcdyogi mourns the loss of life, displacement, and continued reckoning of postcolonial violence in South Asia including the authoritarian repression of student protestors in Bangladesh and the brutal rape and murder in Kolkata. We would like to take this time to organize a fundraising effort in solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence in India.

While political repression and sexual violence are unfortunate realities that particularly affect marginalized groups, we are witnessing a boiling point resulting in mass demonstrations across South Asia. We stand in solidarity with the people who are facing imprisonment, police brutality, and censorship for building a movement and protesting for the safety and protection of all people.

To truly commemorate independence is to mourn the lives lost to Partition and protect its survivors. The most impacted groups should not bear the brunt of liberation work, and we urge allies to come together in solidarity and provide material support for this initiative.

We stand for democracy and for the liberation of all marginalized people including Dalit Bahujan and Adivasi communities, religious minorities in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, survivors of patriarchal violence, and climate refugees.
