Friends and Family

The old adage is true, "it takes a village" to greatly impact lives. Friends and Family is a wonderful network fundraising opportunity to help your loved one, a breast cancer survivor, obtain a comfortable power recliner for post-surgery recovery. We are committed individuals helping women recover from breast cancer surgery. Our goal is to provide a comfortable recliner that will help our cancer survivors sleep while recovering and cannot lay flat in a bed. Our idea to provide power recliners in Virginia came from a mastectomy patient, and our leader, Linda Caruthers. With support from the Hawthorne Cancer Foundation at Johnston Willis Hospital, the idea became a reality.

Sponsor a Family Member

Begin by sponsoring a friend or family member who has applied for a financial grant to purchase a recliner. You start by making a donation yourself, then create your own fundraising group of friends and family who would like to help raise funds on behalf of your loved one. Encourage your friends and family members to participate by enlisting their own friends and family to achieve the ultimate financial goal. Create a friendly competition between members of your group and watch the number grow. Get creative, be the one that makes a difference in your loved ones' life.

Since its inception in 1965, The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation (formerly The Johns Cancer Foundation) has served thousands of cancer patients and their families throughout the greater Richmond metropolitan community. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals waging their battle against cancer. With the combined strength of The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation and The Hawthorne Cancer Resource Center located at Johnston-Willis Campus, we can assist cancer patients through financial, emotional, and material support.
