🐾When Jake’s time was running out, Last Chance Animal Rescue stepped in.🐾

This sweet 2-year-old boy was living in a heartbreaking hoarding situation and was facing an urgent deadline to find medical rescue. Despite everything he has been through, Jake has never stopped believing in people.

From the moment he arrived, one thing was clear—Jake’s spirit is far stronger than his body.

Jake arrived severely underweight and dangerously frail. He was so malnourished that he wasn’t even healthy enough to be neutered. Thanks to the dedicated staff at the shelter in North Carolina and the loving care of his temporary foster there, Jake slowly began to gain a small amount of weight and strength.

Now in New York with Last Chance Animal Rescue, Jake is still in critical need of answers and care—and his journey is far from over.

Jake has significant orthopedic abnormalities affecting both of his hind legs, causing severe lateral bowing of his stifle joints. His previous owner stated he was “born this way,” but he has never received the specialized veterinary care needed to determine exactly what is wrong—or what can be done to help him.

Jake now urgently needs a comprehensive orthopedic evaluation, diagnostic imaging, and a full medical workup to determine the cause of his deformities and the best course of treatment. He will also continue to need nutritional rehabilitation, veterinary care, and a long-term plan to help him live a comfortable, pain-free life.

The remarkable part? Jake doesn’t let any of this define him.💙

He is incredibly gentle, affectionate, and eager to love. In his foster home, he has formed a special bond with the young child in the family, patiently soaking up every bit of kindness he receives. After a lifetime of neglect, Jake still greets people with a wagging tail and a hopeful heart.

Jake has survived circumstances no dog should ever experience. He has survived starvation, neglect, and uncertainty. Now he needs our help to answer the biggest question of all: What does Jake need to finally have the healthy, happy life he deserves?
