Jan Laurel Jarboe was born in Dallas, Texas on January 16, 1956, and passed away in Houston, Texas on her 68th birthday on January 16, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Jarboe. Jan is survived by her sisters, Mary Roberta Grenfell and Anne Jarboe, and her long-term caretaker, Beatriz Diaz.

Jan made friends easily and lastingly wherever she went. She held jobs at Hubbard’s Cafeteria, Mervyn’s Department Store, the Richardson Senior Center, and various workshops. She conducted tours for new commers to the Senior Center and knew everyone there. She was a long-time member of the Circle of Friends that meets in Richardson TX, holding the position of member representative on the Board of Directors of the group and helped the directors plan activities and select entertainers. She faithfully called all members and group homes to remind them of upcoming meetings and special events.

She asked everyone she met their name and would inquire about their birthday to get a conversation going. She would wave to anyone she passed with no expectation that they would wave back. She had a marvelous sense of color and created many beautiful paintings, which she freely gave to friends, nurses, doctors and many who helped her through life. She was a member of Unity Church of Christianity. In her younger years Jan was an avid participant in the Special Olympics of Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to this donation page.
