Let's talk about Math!
COVID-19 had the most devastating effect on students’ math abilities. According to the nation’s report card, 64% of fourth graders are not proficient in math.

Girls do better on math tests and are more likely to want to continue to study math in the future when parents and teachers support them. With encouragement from parents and teachers, girls expand their experience and learning.

To address this, SAfG has prioritized math and it’s the focus of our 10-week Fall session curriculum at 22 East Bay elementary schools.

This event empowers parents

In tandem with our afterschool classes, our Women Who Lead virtual event, MathQuest: Nurturing your child’s potential helps parents discover how to best support and encourage their children’s interests in math and numbers.

During the event, you'll hear ideas and insights from math experts Nancy Blachman, the cofounder of Julia Robinson Mathematics Festivals and Maria del Rosario Zavala, coauthor of Cultivating Mathematical Hearts: Culturally Responsive Mathematics Teaching in Elementary Classrooms:

How can parents encourage their children in math even when it’s not something they’re not good at?
What are the top 3 ways parents can get their children more enthusiastic and engaged in math?
Are there things parents say or do that unintentionally discourage math exploration?
