Help Support FDNY Lt. James “Jimmy” McGee in His Battle Against Glioblastoma

Jimmy is a husband, a father, a step-father, a son, a brother, a friend — and a dedicated first responder. He is a Lieutenant at FDNY Station 54, has also served at Station 49 , Station 47 and Haztac...and a former paramedic at Lenox Hill Hospital and Jamaica Hospital. On September 11th, 2001, when New York City was attacked, Jimmy ran towards the danger and spent countless hours at Ground Zero during the rescue and recovery efforts.

Like so many of our first responders who worked tirelessly in the aftermath of that day, Jimmy is now fighting for his life. He has been diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer linked to toxic exposure at the World Trade Center site.

Why We’re Asking for Help:

Jimmy’s condition requires around-the-clock medical care, treatments, therapies, and support, all of which place a massive emotional and financial burden on his family. His wife, Beth, and his family have been by his side every step of the way — caring for him, coordinating treatments, and doing everything they can to keep him going during this unimaginable time.

We are asking our community, friends, fellow first responders, and anyone who believes in standing by those who have sacrificed for us — please help support Jimmy and his family.

We provide a safety net to 4,567 EMTs and Paramedics that serve as frontline medical care providers across NYC’s five boroughs. We call them NYC’s street doctors as vulnerable NYC populations often will not seek medical care until it is an emergency.

The EMS FDNY Help Fund is a 501(c)(3). The funds that we raise are designated expressly for the Emergency Medical Technicians & Paramedics of the FDNY. Our mission is to ensure the security of our Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics and their families in the event of death, injury, illness or hardship.
