At JLS Housing Center, we are committed to providing a safe, empowering, and restorative space for imprisoned women activists and political prisoners upon their release. Our mission is to break cycles of instability by offering holistic support, resources, and training that help individuals rebuild their lives with dignity.

Our Commitment

We provide critical resources to help returning women secure vital records, reconnect with community organizations, and craft strong resumes and portfolios that highlight their skills and experiences.

Beyond practical support, we prioritize holistic well-being through self-defense training, mindfulness practices, and nutritional education, fostering resilience, confidence, and peace.

Building Intergenerational Resistance

Our housing center also serves young women (18+) exiting group homes, many of whom stand at the edge of the prison pipeline. This intersection is critical—returning activists bring lived experience, resistance strategies, and hard-earned knowledge that can guide these young women toward thriving futures without enduring the same cycles of imprisonment. Through mentorship, shared organizing, and direct support, we create a space where liberation is passed down, ensuring the next generation is equipped to fight for a better life.

Progress & Urgent Needs

Since July 2023, we’ve made major improvements to our housing center, including: ✅ New roofing to ensure safety and stability ✅ Updated electrical systems for reliable infrastructure ✅ Enhanced security measures to protect residents

But we are not done. To expand living space, we urgently need funding for plumbing upgrades in one of our structures. This will allow us to increase capacity and provide stable housing for more returning activists and young women exiting group homes.

Additionally, we need funding for a privacy fence to ensure safety, security, and autonomy for residents. Creating a protected space is essential for fostering healing, organizing, and community-building without external interference.
