Within one of Kenya's most remote and marginalized regions, Kakenya's Dream is leading the way in gender equality. From the moment they're born, girls and boys in our community face different expectations and unequal access to resources and opportunities. This happens in their homes, schools, future workplaces, and society at large.

We invest in rural Kenyan girls and young women to overcome immense barriers such as poverty, female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and other forms of gender-based violence. We firmly believe that empowered women become transformative agents of change in their communities. Empowered girls not only transform their community, but also shift cultural norms, ensuring that other girls and women are valued and respected for generations to come!

So, how do we do this? We use education, comprehensive health support, life and job skills development, and community advocacy. Our vision is for a world where every girl and young woman can access quality education, is inherently valued, and has the opportunity to realize her potential fully.

Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya, our founder, is a prominent advocate for girls' education and empowerment. After enduring FGM and narrowly avoiding child marriage, Kakenya became the first woman from her community to attend college in the United States. In 2008, she established Kakenya’s Dream to pave the way for the next generation of female leaders. Watch her remarkable journey in the video above.
