2024

This year, we have been fortunate to connect with so many wonderful people who support our mission. On behalf of Oscar, Britt, and myself, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to YOU and the incredible caregivers who work tirelessly every day to ensure our residents are happy and healthy. The challenges are numerous, and there’s always something new on the horizon.

This year has also brought us profound sadness as we said goodbye to some of our beloved residents. Wilma was a sweet and beautiful soul, and Sam, who came to us as Samantha, was with us for only a short time. Our clever and affectionate Rudy brought joy to our daily lives with his engaging activities while Rose, the last of our third group of Kaporos hens, was a sweet companion for Victor the rooster. Each of them left this world far too soon, and making the difficult choices surrounding their care was heart-wrenching. We can only hope that we made the right decisions for them.

The circle of life continues at JP as we also welcomed our fourth group of hens rescued from the Kaporos traditions (a religious atonement ritual that uses chickens and roosters to expel sins from practitioners). Lily, Violet, Sage, Jasmine, and Daisy will live out their lives in sanctuary.

As we witness a global rise in meat consumption, we remain committed to outreach and fostering human connection with animals. It’s crucial that we come together to find better ways to communicate the harsh realities faced by farmed animals—billions of lives subjected to violence and neglect. The disconnect and lack of empathy surrounding this issue are concerning, and we must ask ourselves: what can we do to bridge this gap?

Let’s work together to raise awareness, share stories, and inspire change. Our collective efforts can create a more compassionate world for all beings. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.

To do the work that we do, we ask for your support in our year end fundraiser and last call to donate in 2024. We have a few donors matching any donation up to $24,000! It is so great as we need to build another barn for new residents coming in early 2025! More to come on this topic soon. This means if you give $1 it will turn into $2. Every bit helps so much.
