Justice for Salvador Pardo:

We Stand in Solidarity With Him. Advocating for fundamental rights and compliance with minimum wage and earned sick leave laws.

After 18 years, he organized. They fired him. In solidarity, we stand with him.

For 18 years, Salvador Pardo showed up every week and every shift at the Dollar Depot & More Store in East Orange, New Jersey. He regularly worked over 60 hours a week for years, earning $10.00 an hour, while his employer withheld his rightfully earned wages. Salvador was thus compelled between maintaining his health and securing his income.

Then, a change happened: Salvador connected with the Laundry Workers Center. Our organizers reached him through community outreach, sat with him, educated him about his rights, and supported his growth as a leader. He became an organizer, launched his own campaign, and stood up.

Rather than entering into negotiations, the employer responded with the following actions:

Cutting Salvador's working hours.
Using intimidation tactics and suggesting that he look for another job.
Finally, the employer retaliated by firing him after he had taken an earned sick day, citing his immigration status.

The Laundry Workers Center is raising emergency funds to support Salvador as he navigates the loss of employment due to his employer's actions against him.

The Laundry Workers Center (LWC) is a worker-led organization that organizes laundry and retail workers in New York and New Jersey to recover stolen wages, build leadership, and win lasting change. Since our founding, we have recovered $23+ million in wages for workers like Salvador.
