Justice Rising in Southern Utah

The Southern Utah Justice Rising Breakfast brings our community together to support a simple but important idea: everyone deserves meaningful access to the justice system.

Civil legal aid can make the difference between a family remaining safely housed or becoming homeless, a survivor obtaining protection from abuse, an older adult keeping essential benefits, or a person with a disability being able to exercise rights guaranteed by law.

Through And Justice for All and our partner organizations, 30,000 Utahns across the state receive free legal help with these and other critical civil legal issues.

THANK YOU to everyone who attended and donated to the cause. We had more than 60 attendees and raised over $23,000, including the Utah Bar Foundation match. Your support and connections in the community meant a great deal as we got this first breakfast off the ground.

We're still accepting donations if you would like to give to this cause. If you have questions, reach out to Staci Duke at staci@andjusticeforall.org or 801-924-3169.

Welcome and Introduction: V. Lowry Snow

V. Lowry Snow is a Senior Shareholder of Snow Jensen & Reece in St. George and has long been committed to strengthening access to justice in Utah. He was a charter board member of the Southern Utah Community Legal Center and currently serves as Vice President of the Utah Bar Foundation. He has also served on the Utah Supreme Court’s Standing Committee on Resources for Self-Represented Parties and is a past president of both the Utah State Bar and Southern Utah Bar Association. Lowry also served 11 years in the Utah House of Representatives, including service on the House Judiciary Standing Committee.

Keynote Speaker: Judge John J. Walton

We are honored to welcome retired Fifth District Court Judge John J. Walton as the keynote speaker for our inaugural Southern Utah Justice Rising Breakfast. He will be introduced by one of our champions, former Representative V. Lowry Snow of Snow Jensen & Reece.

Judge Walton was appointed to the Fifth District Court in 2005 and served the people of Southern Utah for more than 20 years, including service as Presiding Judge of the Fifth District Court. Before joining the bench, he served as a Deputy Washington County Attorney and practiced civil litigation in private practice.

His long connection to Southern Utah and decades of experience in its courts give him a unique perspective on the importance of a justice system that is accessible to everyone.

Southern Utah Community Legal Center

Access to legal help can be especially challenging for people living outside the Wasatch Front.

The Southern Utah Community Legal Center is a collaborative effort between And Justice for All, Utah Legal Services, the Disability Law Center, and the Southern Utah Bar Association to provide civil legal aid to disadvantaged residents in southwestern Utah.

Utah Legal Services mans the center and has in-office staff providing direct services and coordinating with the Southern Utah Bar Association on its pro bono activities. The Disability Law Center uses the shared space for client meetings and outreach as needed. Both provide legal services and community legal education to residents in the area.

By creating a coordinated effort between nonprofit legal aid providers and the private bar, this collaboration builds capacity within the legal system to close service gaps and respond more effectively to the specific challenges facing Southern Utah residents. It also offers judges and community partners a clear referral point for individuals in need of legal assistance.

Our Priorities

Your support helps civil legal aid organizations address legal problems that affect the most basic parts of people's lives:

Family safety and stability
Safe, affordable housing
Disability rights
Consumer protection
Education and employment
Health care and public benefits
Protection of older adults and veterans
Income security and self-sufficiency

Your Gift Makes Justice Possible

For someone facing eviction, abuse, loss of critical benefits, consumer fraud, discrimination, or another serious civil legal problem, having an attorney can change the course of a life.

Please make a gift today to help ensure that Utahns in Southern Utah and across our state can get the legal help they need.

Every gift matters. Thank you for standing with us for justice for all.

About And Justice for All

And Justice for All was founded by the Disability Law Center, Utah Legal Services, and Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake with a different approach to supporting civil legal aid: rather than competing for the same charitable dollars, the organizations came together to raise funds collaboratively, coordinate resources, and strengthen access to legal help throughout Utah.

Today, And Justice for All raises and distributes funding for these three partner organizations while also investing a portion of legal campaign funds in smaller nonprofit legal aid programs serving underserved communities throughout Utah.

Together, we are working toward a Utah where access to justice does not depend on a person's ability to pay.
